Our boys played 13 unbelievable games in the lead up to the Round 14 Lightning Premiership at Bulleen Park only dropping one game for the entire season. What an unbelievable effort from a super team that gelled from the opening training session this season. The team also welcomed 3 new players into the fold this season & those players instantly felt a part of this modest team. As a team, without mentioning individual players, our season unfolded like this:
Blue Division
Round 1 vs Whitehorse Colts – Macleod Eagles won by 5 points
Round 2 vs Preston Bullants – Macleod Eagles won by 8 points
Round 3 vs Kew Rover – Macleod Eagles won by 18 points
Round 4 vs Doncaster – Macleod Eagles won by 152 points
Elevated to Green Division
Round 5 vs Camberwell 3 – Macleod Eagles lost by 9 points
Round 6 vs Fitzroy 1 – Macleod Eagles won by 44 points
Round 7 vs Bulleen Templestowe – Macleod Eagles won by 5 points
Round 8 vs Banyule Y – Macleod Eagles won by 41 points
Round 9 vs Canterbury – Macleod Eagles won by 33 points
Round 10 vs Glen Iris – Macleod Eagles won by 54 points
Round 11 vs Surrey Park – Macleod Eagles won by 16 points
Round 12 vs Warrandyte – Macleod Eagles won by 18 points
Round 13 vs Bulleen Templestowe – Macleod Eagles won by 34 points
Round 14 Lightening Premiership Green Division
We drew a tough draw playing in Pool A with the winner of Pool A & Pool B to play off in the Grand Final
Game 1 vs Greythorn Falcons- 4-2-26 to 0-2-2 – Macleod Eagles won by 24 points
Game 2 vs Canterbury Cobras B – 1-7-13 to 1-1-7 – Macleod Eagles won by 6 points
Game 3 vs Camberwell Sharks – 2-2-14 to 1-1-7 (the only team to beat us this season in round 5) – Macleod Eagles won by 7 points
Pool A winner Macleod Eagles to play Pool B winner & host team Bulleen Templestowe in the Grand& Final
Game 4 Grand& Final vs Bulleen Templestowe Bullants 3-4-22 to 1-0-6 – Macleod Eagles won by 16 points
Bulleen Templestowe jumped out of the blocks to kick the only score to lead 1 goal to nothing at half time. Our boys regrouped at the break & looked each other in the eye & put the acid test on each other. They reset & played the Macleod way in the second half with brilliant team work to kick 3 goals, 4 points in the second half & restricted Bulleen Templestowe to no score. A fantastic even team effort across all lines to be awarded the Premiership Flag & we could not be any prouder of this team. To achieve what they have this season is nearly impossible at any level of footy. To only drop one game all season & then play that same team on Grand Final Day & needing to beat that team in game 3 to get into the Grand Final was amazing.
To face off against the host team Bulleen Templestowe in the Grand Final & beating them by 16 points, what an unbelievable effort by an unbelievable team. I love what each player brings to this team & to see them giving their all & being rewarded for that hard work to win the Premiership Flag, there is no better feeling as their Coach. 4 of our Under 10 players also played in the Under 11 winning Grand Final a few weeks later.
It has been an honour to coach this team for the past 3 years & to see the player & the person they have each become makes me very proud.
A big thank you to my support team, Assistant Coach Dean Castleton, Team Manager Glenn Forrest & all the parents for helping out on game day & training.
What a team we have with our boys. The future looks very bright at the Eagles Nest!
